we're in thenists or 40s and if you're experiencing any fog, it's very issue very light and around the south coast area. the current temperature is 50 degrees in boston and 47, fitchburg; forrester, 49 degrees and 59 on the cape there. a couple of mid-50s from the vineyard to nantucket. and those are the high temperatures for the day and not warming up too much. all afternoon is going to being well like it's raining as well. the clouds are in place and becoming thick and some areas of drizzle popping up in worcester county and that will stick around throughout the day and not a complete wash outor anything like that but more of an annoyance or anything. not a lot of sunshine this afternoon either. fifty degrees, though, the good news, we'll be above the average high of 42 degrees and with the cooldown. yesterday, we had 61; today, temperatures in the mid-50s. warming up and we're around 60. when we'll see the warmth then, and some rain chances in the seven-day forecast.

and we do begin with a holiday tragedy in stoughton. the owner of a christmas tree stand killed while crossing the street next ho to his business. the driver accused in the crash is suspected of being high on drugs. >> that man was my life, you know, my husband is a gentle and kind man and he took him from me. i won't get him back. >> reporter: she sits in front of her christmas tree in disbelief, morning the loss of her beloved husband. joe brady was killed friday night, a husband and grandfather suddenly taken in a brutal way. he was hit by a car as he was crossing route 27 trying to get to the roadside christmas tree shop in stoughton. >> hit him and threw him in the air and that was it. >> plowed right into him? >> yes. and knocked the shoes off. he hit the windshield and he was a good 25, 30 feet down the road where they found him. >> reporter: the driver, 33- year-old michael burns of taunton, was arrested and charged with driving under the

>> i hope they throw the book at him and charge him with everything. and homicide, drugs, the whole 9 yards. i want him gone. >> reporter: joe brady's passion was auto racing. he had owned race cars for five decades, a member of the new england racing hall of fame. >> and she was a -- he was a legend. i say that because of the racing history. >> reporter: even those who worked with him over the years remember much more than that. they remember the man himself. >> he was one of my heros. he is one of my friends and he taught me a lot more about life than he did about racing. >> reporter: and on saturday night, that christmas tree shop across the way remained open for business. the staff thinking of joe brady each and every moment. as far as the defense goes, he's being held over the weekend on $30,000 bail and is due in court monday morning.

and a car fire slowed traffic down along route 93 earlier this morning and this is the scene in summerville. firefighters were called to the car. there was no word if anyone was injured or what caused the blaze. the navy's new health destroyer helped rescue a fisherman in distress. he was suffering from chest pains. the coast guard crew flew to the scene and was unable to bring him aboard. a small boat from the destroyer picked hip up and they hoisted him from there. now this morning, pope francis is coming to north america again and boston's o'malley will join the pope. he will make a six-day trip to mexico arriving on february 12th. the pope plans to make a statement about immigrant rights and stop along the mexican-u.s. border. the cardinal o'malley told the

and checking our top stories now, he's being remembered as a family man and a hard worker. 71-year-old joseph brady of stoughton was hit and killed friday night by a driver police say was high on drugs. he was trying to cross route 27 to reach the roadside stand where he was selling christmas trees when he was hit. the 33-year-old michael burns of taunton will be in court tomorrow. and boston's cardinal o'malley will join pope francis during the next visit to north america. the pope arrives on friday, february 12th, for a six-day visit to mexico, including a stop in ciudad, juarez. and that is one of the major points of entry into the united states. the pope is expected to make of immigrants. and helps rallied in downtown boston, calling for change. yesterday in paris, world leaders from 200 countries reached a global agreement on climate change designed to

. welcome back, the red line operator whose train took off without him will face a disciplinary hearing tomorrow. the governor said operator david vasquez violated multiple safety procedures. wbz has learned that a rubber chord was wrapped around the throttle controls. that circumvented the safety procedures that stopped the train if an operator was not on board and it could cost vasquez his job. the runaway train rolled on for 9 minutes before power was cut and it came to a stop. and officials in newtown, connecticut, say they will try to make tomorrow as normal a school day as possible. that won't be easy, especially for parents. it's the first time students will actually be going to school on the anniversary of the handy hook -- sandy hook massacre.
